It was sort of a surprise when Quentin Tarantino announced that his next film would be about Charles Manson set in the '60s. He even hired Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate (one of Manson's most famous victims), and Brad Pitt as an investigator of the murders. Other Tarantino alumni were said to be part of the cast as well, including Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as a role for Jennifer Lawrence.
However, that doesn't seem to be the case…or rather, that's not what the film is actually about. At an award-season post-screening brunch for Sofia Coppola’s THE BEGUILED, Tarantino stated:
It’s not Charles Manson, it’s 1969.
There were rumors that the film would be like PULP FICTION, with different parallel stories, interlocking throughout the narrative. Maybe the Sharon Tate/Manson is just one of many subplots? He is currently looking for partners on the film, as he has publicly severed ties with Harvey Weinstein, who had bankrolled his films up to now.
