Quentin Tarantino may be taking another detour from his tenth and final movie as TMZ reports that he’s set to join forces with Sylvester Stallone for a gangster series set in the 1930s. I hope this one turns out to be true, because it sounds like it could be amazing.

Tarantino & Stallone’s Gangster Series

According to the outlet, Tarantino will write and co-direct the series, with Stallone on board to co-direct. It doesn’t sound like Stallone will be appearing on screen, but the actor has had plenty of experience in the gangster world, from playing Frank Nitti in Capone, Angelo “Snaps” Provolone in Oscar, and, more recently, Dwight “The General” Manfredi in Tulsa King.

Not only will the series be set in the 1930s, but it will also be shot in black and white with cameras from the era. It will be a six-part series full of gangsters, showgirls, boxing, and music.

Tarantino & Stallone Have Almost Worked Together Before

Although Tarantino and Stallone haven’t actually worked together before, they have had a few close calls. Word is that he was up for the roles of Louis Gara in Jackie Brown (which ultimately went to Robert De Niro) and Stuntman Mike McKay in Death Proof (played by Kurt Russell).

But First… A Play?

Tarantino’s next project won’t be seen on screen, but on the stage. He’s been developing a play titled The Popinjay Cavalier. It’s being described as a “swashbuckling comedy” set in the 1830s and will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment. The press release calls it “a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen.“Tarantino has been planning to premiere it in London on the West End. The official premiere date is yet to be announced, but it is being developed for an early 2027 debut.

Oh, the play is all written. It is absolutely the next thing I’m going to do,” he said last year. “It’s absolutely my next project. And we’ll start doing it. We’ll start the ball rolling on it in January. Because I just figure it’s like the first of the year.

Assuming this gangster series from Quentin Tarantino and Sylvester Stallone turns out to be true (and actually moves forward), are you down?
