More than a year and a half has gone by since it was announced that André Øvredal would be directing a sequel to his 2019 hit Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (watch it HERE), but while we continue to wait to hear when that sequel will be going into production, Øvredal has already lined up another genre project: he will be directing a “high concept thriller” called Tarot for eOne, the company that’s also financing the Scary Stories sequel.

Deadline reports that eOne acquired the pitch for Tarot, which was written by Project Almanac and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension‘s Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman, in “a competitive auction”. Details on the story Pagan and Deutschman have crafted are being kept under wraps, all we know is that Tarot is “based on Tarot cards”. Which we assumed as soon as we saw the title.

Fuller Media’s Brad Fuller will be producing Tarot, while Alex Ginno and Øvredal serve as executive producers. Jillian Share, Laurel Thomson, and Cyrus Shaki-Khan will be overseeing the project for eOne.

In addition to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Øvredal’s previous genre credits include directing Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, and Mortal. He is currently in post-production on the Dracula film Last Voyage of the Demeter.

Through his collaborations with Michael Bay and Andrew Form at the Platinum Dunes production company, Fuller has produced many horror films over the years, from the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to this year’s A Quiet Place Part II, with reboots of Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street along the way.

Are you a fan of André Øvredal’s films? Would you rather see Tarot or Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 go into production first? Share your thoughts on this news by leaving a comment below.
