According to People, while most people chose to seek shelter inside an air-conditioned space yesterday out of fear of bursting into flames the second they walk out their front door, Adam Sandler was shooting hoops in the heatwave ahead of his gig as the officiant of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s nuptials. The publication reports that Sandler hit the blacktop in a yellow t-shirt and basketball shorts, despite the 100-degree temperatures. After taking it to the hoop, Sandler grabbed coffees for his family, who were busy getting ready for Swift and Kelce’s wedding at Madison Square Garden.
Sandler gets a front row seat to the big show
In addition to officiating the ceremony, Sandler stood with the couple. He’d have to, right? He’s marrying them after all. Anyway. Taylor and Travis chose not to have a traditional wedding party (could you imagine trying to choose among the couple’s untold number of friends), with Sandler, Swift’s brother, Austin, who served as her Man of Honor, and Kelce’s brother, Jason, as his Best Man.
Despite being good friends, Sandler says Taylor Swift is one of the few celebrities who makes him nervous. Just being in her orbit is intimidating. “You know what, Taylor Swift, because what she means to my kids, I get a little jumpy. Just ’cause I don’t wanna blow it for my kids,” Sandler told Conan O’Brien on an episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Fried in 2024. “So I’m a little like, ‘Taylor, Taylor,’ like I talk a little too loud or something. I don’t stay as cool as I can.”
I’d be intimidated by Swift as well. Not her specifically, she seems lovely, but her bodyguards, that’s another story altogether. There’s been a “We must protect Taylor Swift at all costs” mentality for a long time, what with her being America’s sweetheart and all. I could imagine a tense atmosphere while trying to hang anywhere near her on any given day.
Stevie Nicks joins the lineup
Sandler wasn’t the only big name at the “private” wedding celebration. According to reports, Stevie Nicks performed at the event, though it’s unclear if Swift joined her on stage. Swift and Nicks share a mutual admiration for each other, with Nicks telling Rolling Stone in 2024, “She’s in a good place right now, and I think she has a good man. I hope they fall deeper and deeper in love and ride off into the sunset. He does his thing, and she does her thing, and then they come back together and get married and have babies if she wants that. I just want all of that for her.”
