Bennett Miller has certainly proven himself a capable director with the Oscar-winning films CAPOTE and MONEYBALL. He has been able to take actors and fully transform them on screen. Whether it be a talented dramatic actor like Philip Seymour Hoffman completely changing his physical appearance or a comedic actor like Jonah Hill pulling a dramatic 180, Miller has showcased some talent in his films. Now, with FOXCATCHER, he aims to do it again.

Starring an almost unrecognizable Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo, FOXCATCHER tells a tragic true story of murder and madness.

The story of Olympic Wrestling Champion Mark Schultz and how paranoid schizophrenic John du Pont killed his brother, Olympic Champion Dave Schultz.

Now, when you watch the trailer and clip from FOXCATCHER, you may be thrown off by the physical appearance of the cast. Hell, you may even chuckle and think it appears ridiculous. But, for some reason, it works for me. There is definitely a gravity to Carell’s performance here that we have not seen before. He has stretched himself dramatically in films like DAN IN REAL LIFE and LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, but DuPont looks like the type of role that wins awards. We don’t see much of Ruffalo here, but Channing Tatum looks decent as well.

Already receiving a lot of acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival, FOXCATCHER will premiere in theaters on November 14, 2014.
