Teaser trailer and poster for [Rec] 3 Genesis had me at bride with chainsaw

[REC] 3 GENESIS, the third film in the Spanish series by director Paco Plaza, premiered at SXSW over the weekend and now has a pretty “goreific” trailer to share. The third installment takes place outside the apartment block of the previous two films and invades a wedding ceremony, turning the guests into blood-spattered zombies.

Take a walk down the aisle:

The [REC] series is a fan favorite in the “found footage” genre and the filmmakers have a number of sequels planned after [REC] 3 GENESIS, exploring the origin causes of the zombie outbreak and taking on numerous locations around the globe.  Some may view this as a great thing, while others may loathe to hear it.  Horror franchises are typically cheap to maintain, so they churn out sequels like butter, but the quantity doesn’t always reflect the quality.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Koldo and Clara (Diego Martinare and Leticia Dolera, respectively) are about to celebrate the most important day of their lives: their wedding.

Everything appears to be running smoothly and the bride and groom and their families are enjoying a wonderful day; that is until some of the guests start showing signs of a strange illness. Before they know what’s happening, the bride and groom find themselves in the middle of a hellish ordeal, as an uncontrollable torrent of violence is unleashed on the wedding.

Amidst the chaos, Koldo and Clara become separated and begin a desperate search for one another. What started off as an idyllic day quickly descends into a nightmare of the worst kind…

[REC] 3 GENESIS opens in Spain on March 30, 2012 and in the US on May 11th, 2012.
