Seth MacFarlane’s Ted is adding some extra stuffing by bringing the foul-mouthed bear and his surrogate family into the world of animation! On Wednesday, Peacock announced that Ted: The Animated Series will premiere with its first eight episodes on December 17, with additional episodes airing in 2027.
The upcoming animated series is set 12 years after the events of Ted and Ted 2. The animated mayhem finds Seth MacFarlane once again voicing the titular teddy bear, with Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Jessica Barth reprising their film roles as John, Sam, and Tami-Lynn, respectively. Newcomers to the cast include Kyle Mooney as the voice of a new character, Apollo, and Liz Richman as Ruth.

“Picking up twelve years after the conclusion of the last movie, John (Wahlberg) and his thunder-buddy Ted (MacFarlane) are neighbors, both with families of their own and dead-end jobs. Follow these two lovable stoners as they enable each other’s bad ideas about marriage, parenting and the challenges of adult life.”
It’s no surprise Peacock keeps returning to MacFarlane’s foul-mouthed plushie, considering how massively successful the franchise has been on the big screen. When the original Ted hit theaters in 2012, it became a certified box office juggernaut. Produced on a modest $50 million budget, the film defied expectations by pulling in $218.8 million domestically and over $330 million internationally, culminating in a staggering $549 million global total. It smashed records to become Universal’s highest-grossing film of that year and stood as one of the highest-grossing original R-rated comedies of all time.
While 2015’s Ted 2 couldn’t quite reach those same soaring heights, the sequel still proved the thunder buddies had plenty of box office pull. Made on a $68 million budget, Ted 2 grossed $81.4 million domestically and surpassed $217 million worldwide. Together, the two films generated over $760 million worldwide, solidifying Ted as a pop-culture juggernaut and proving that audiences couldn’t get enough of MacFarlane’s crude humor.
In addition to playing Snuggle’s evil twin (not really), MacFarlane is producing all episodes with executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh (Modern Family), who also executive-produced the live-action series, Ted.
