While most kids his age are going to college, listening to indie bands, and drinking until they can’t feel feelings, 19-year-old Colton Harris-Moore is a wanted bandit.
If you haven’t already heard about it on the news, Harris-Moore has been in trouble since the age of 8 for stealing a bike. But he’s come a long way from his bike stealing days. Now at 19, he’s stolen cars, speedboats, and small planes.
Harris-Moore is a suspect in more than 100 crimes, mostly felonies since leaving a juvenile facility in the Pacific Northwest in 2008. He’s been dubbed as the “barefoot burglar” after he was seen running barefoot from the scene of a crime. Now Rough House, the production company headed by Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Jody Hill, and Matt Reilly is looking produce a film on the bandit. It will be based on a book proposal by Bob Friel, who profiled Harris-Moore in the January edition of the magazine Outside.
Rough House is currently shopping for writers with David Gordon Green possibly directing.
So what’s so interesting about Harris-Moore? The kid did teach himself to fly a plane in order to escape from the local police, FBI, and Homeland Security. Plus he’s got his own fan club on Facebook with over 20,000 members. He’s their modern day Jesse James, as they say, without the murders.
