Terminator: Dark Fate, box office, Halloween

Update: Not long after it was reported that Tim Miller's TERMINATOR: DARK FATE could earn between $30-40M during its opening weekend, analysts now have the James Cameron-produced sequel landing at an expected $28M domestic gross for its opening gambit. In the past, Terminator films have opened during a 5-day holiday window. This is not the case with TERMINATOR: DARK FATE. With the film's Friday take coming in at just $11.3M, it's likely that the nostalga-heavy thrillride won't rise to its previously projected amount of $30-$40M.

While many who celebrate the devilishly-delightful holiday that is Halloween by dressing up in costumes or handing out delicious candy to trick-or-treaters, some choose to spend All Hallows' Eve at the theater, to experience a frightening flick or hotly-anticipated new release.

This year, plenty of moviegoers decided to check out director Tim Miller's TERMINATOR: DARK FATE, a film that continues the journey of Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), one of cinema's most iconic characters. When looking at the numbers, we see that TERMINATOR: DARK FATE treated itself to $3.5 million from 7pm screenings on Halloween night. For those of you who're keeping track, that amount closely mirrors the premiere numbers for TERMINATOR: GENISYS, which made $2.3 million back on June 30, 2015. During Genisys' five-day opening, the Terminator sequel starring Jason Clarke as an adult John Connor, and Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, collected $42.4 million in box office receipts.

According to industry analysts, TERMINATOR: DARK FATE is expected to make roughly $40 million (domestically) during its opening bow. However, with the film also opening in China as well as in 36 other territories, it's to be thought that the film could pull as much as $80-$85 million during it's opening weekend worldwide.

The official synopsis for TERMINATOR: DARK FATE:

More than two decades have passed since Sarah Connor prevented Judgment Day, changed the future, and re-wrote the fate of the human race. Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes) is living a simple life in Mexico City with her brother (Diego Boneta) and father when a highly advanced and deadly new Terminator – a Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna) – travels back through time to hunt and kill her. Dani's survival depends on her joining forces with two warriors: Grace (Mackenzie Davis), an enhanced super-soldier from the future, and a battle-hardened Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). As the Rev-9 ruthlessly destroys everything and everyone in its path on the hunt for Dani, the three are led to a T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from Sarah’s past that may be their last best hope.

TERMNATOR: DARK FATE, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes and Gabriel Luna has officially hit theaters and is awaiting your judgment.
