Terminator won’t die, Justin Lin chats making 5th film with Schwarzenegger

Is a 65 year old Terminator something we all wanna see?

While Arnold Schwarzenegger carefully weighs his live-action film comeback options, we’ll never really be able to disassociate the man from the indelible TERMINATOR franchise (at least the first two films). Which is why, previous bankruptcy issues aside, talk of a fifth Terminator film is harder to kill than a f*ckin’ Jersey Shore cast member.

Today, while out pimping FAST FIVE, director Justin Lin was asked about his potential involvement in TERMINATOR 5. Here’s what he said:

“I think one of the great things is that when I got started, no one would return my calls, and now I get a lot of phone calls, which is good. I have options. Terminator was one of my favorite films growing up. And I feel I have a take that I would love to see, and I’ve talked with Arnold and we’ve talked and we’ll see. Again, I would love to do it, but it has to be the right circumstances. It has to be the right people. And there’s other projects too. But I’m in a position now that I can choose more than I could a year ago, two years ago. So that is something that is potentially in my future, but when I get home I will sit down and look at my options and choose what I want to do.”

Okay then, doesn’t sound too promising does it? I suppose it’s cool he and Arnie have discussed the possibility of returning the sagging franchise, but nothing in those comments make me think Lin’s heart is truly into such a sequel. Not to mention Arnold, who seems decidedly interested in tackling new material rather than a sequel, reboot or remake. Can’t fault the man there.

But what do you think? Should Lin persuade Arnold and Universal into making a fifth TERMINATOR flick? If not, why not?
