The all female Ghostbusters sequel to be written by The Heat’s Kate Dippold

With the blessing from star Bill Murray and the involvement from writer/producer Dan Akyroyd, GHOSTBUSTERS 3 looks to be moving ahead as an all-female reboot/sequel to the classic supernatural comedy films. With THE HEAT’s Paul Feig in line to direct, a new draft of the screenplay will be needed and it appears to be someone familiar with Feig’s work.

The Hollywood Reporter says Feig will reunite with THE HEAT screenwriter Kate Dippold for GHOSTBUSTERS 3. Dippold will co-write with Feig but it is unclear as to when the film will get underway. Ivan Reitman and Aykroyd will serve as producers on the film which will serve as a partial reboot of the series. References to the first two films will apparently be retained so as to keep the three films within a single franchise.

THE HEAT was an okay movie and they could do a lot worse, I was just hoping for more direct involvement from the original cast and crew. But, Aykroyd is a fervent supporter of the production of GHOSTBUSTERS 3, so hopefully that means something. Now, if Bill Murray‘s dream cast can actually make it into the film, we may have something worth seeing.

Dippold has a background in comedy writing having worked on both PARKS AND RECREATION and MAD TV. She recently completed a script for THE HEAT 2. Feig has done some good work in comedy, more on the writing side, but THE HEAT did show there is potential for some decent action for GHOSTBUSTERS 3.
