The Break Up scribe adapts Michael Jackson’s Thriller into feature film?

Clearly, THIS IS IT was anything but!

In a weird development, Deadline claims Michael Jackson’s groundbreaking (pun?) music video “Thriller,” which we all know was directed by John Landis in his prime, is possibly being optioned for feature film adaptation. Word is THIS IS IT director Kenny Ortega will reprise his duties on the film, doing so from a script by THE BREAK UP scribe Jeremy Garelick. Wait, WTF?

GK Films is looking to acquire the project from Real Effects Entertainment, who had been shopping the shite around for the past few months. Don’t rule out Fox 2000, Lionsgate/Mandate and Summit Entertainment, who are all eyeing the property as well.

Set up for around $50 million, THRILLER is said to be “fashioned around his (Jackson’s) groundbreaking hit song…having something to do with the song’s folklore, involving Vincent Price and the town he grew up in.”

Wow.

Okay, what do we think about this one. Yes, as far as music videos go, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn’t think Thriller is one of the best ever assembled. But a movie? From the guy who gave us HOCUS POCUS and HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL? From the guy whose sole writing credit came via THE BREAK UP? Shite don’t add up, if you ask me. Wonder what Johnny Landis thinks…

Am I alone or do you feel the same?

Lisa Marie Presly, one time wifey of Michael Jackson!
