Keke Palmer will be back as Peacock has renewed The ‘Burbs for a second season. The TV series inspired by Joe Dante’s classic horror-comedy was a big success for the streaming service, which had the highest Day 1 for a Peacock original ever. The eight-episode series has generated more than 1.7 billion viewing minutes since its February debut.

The ‘Burbs Renewed

We’re so thrilled that audiences loved season one of The ’Burbs, and are going to get to spend more time in Hinkley Hills with Keke and the rest of this incredible cast,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBC & Peacock. “A huge congratulations to all of the writers, producers and crew who updated the beloved original film and made something funny, warm and highly contemporary.

The series follows “a young couple (Keke Palmer, Jack Whitehall) who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when a new neighbor moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood.

Better Than Expected

Our own Alex Maidy enjoyed the series, which surprised even him. “I wanted to write this review to decry the foul, horrible abomination of remaking one of my favorite movies and a cult classic,” he wrote. “I was pleasantly surprised by the fun this series brings while keeping the audience guessing about who the villains really are, all the way through to the finale. While only eight episodes, I came away from The ‘Burbs feeling like I spent a lot longer getting to know the residents of Hinckley Hills. Should The ‘Burbs get renewed for a second season, I hope the writers are able to keep the mystery engaging and full of humor like this first season without diminishing returns…Thanks to Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall’s chemistry and presence, The ‘Burbs is nowhere near the disaster I anticipated and is actually a decent binge.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

The Original on 4K

Shout Select will be releasing the original film on 4K Ultra HD, complete with a bevy of special features, on June 9.
