The Conjuring 4 may be the end of the franchise

A couple months ago, it was announced that The Conjuring 4 is in the works at New Line Cinema, with James Wan and Peter Safran producing and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who previously worked on the scripts for The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, writing the screenplay. Now, in a new interview with Collider, Wan hinted that The Conjuring 4 could turn out to be the end of the franchise.

Wan told Collider, “We are working on (The Conjuring 4) right now. With the Conjuring films, we are very precious about [them]. And so we kind of want to just take our time to make sure we get it right and to make sure the emotion of the Warren stories that we want to tell, and moving into, and potentially wrapping up, we just want to make sure that it’s the right thing, the right story that we’re telling.

When asked to confirm if this is going to be the last sequel, Wan replied, “We never know. You never know. We’ll see.

Personally, I’m hoping The Conjuring 4 won’t be the last time we get to follow Ed and Lorraine Warren on a paranormal investigation, because I would gladly watch Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga continue to play these characters every couple years for the rest of their lives. If they were to stop making movies, I would hope it was only because they decided to do a Conjuring TV series – with Wilson and Farmiga in the lead, of course.

What do you think of the idea of the Conjuring franchise possibly coming to an end with The Conjuring 4? Are you ready to see this series get wrapped up, or are you like me, too enamored with Wilson and Farmiga’s performances as Ed and Lorraine to ever want to say goodbye to them? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Although I would gladly watch the Conjuring movies go on forever, I would be fine if they stopped making “Conjuring Universe” spin-offs. (Which include the likes of Annabelle and The Nun.) Just keep the focus on the Warrens.
