The Conjuring 4

The Conjuring Universe has proven to be exceptionally successful for New Line Cinema, so it could come as no surprise that the studio is getting the ball rolling on The Conjuring 4.

THR reported that David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will write the script for The Conjuring 4. The writer is no stranger to the franchise, as he also had a hand in penning The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. James Wan and Peter Safran return to produce, and it’s expected that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will reprise their roles of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, although no deals have been made. Wilson and Farmiga have appeared in the three main movies in the franchise, as well as Annabelle Comes Home. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick also co-wrote the script for Aquaman and the upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost City. It was also recently revealed that he had written a draft for a sequel to The Flash for Warner Bros.

As I mentioned above, the Conjuring Universe has been quite successful for the studio. The eight films in the franchise have grossed over $2 billion worldwide, which makes it the highest-grossing horror franchise. In addition to The Conjuring 4, there are several other sequels and spinoffs in the works, including The Nun 2. Taissa Farmiga has reprised her role as Sister Irene for the sequel, which is currently shooting in France. We don’t know all that much about The Nun 2 yet, only that it will still take place in the 1950s and feature the return of Bonnie Aarons as Valak/The Nun. It was also announced that Storm Reid (Euphoria) signed on to star alongside Farmiga, but the nature of her character is being kept under wraps. The Nun 2 will hit theaters on September 8, 2023.
