The Curse of Downers Grove will reach theatres on August 21st

Anchor Bay Entertainment have announced that they will be releasing director Derick Martini’s THE CURSE OF DOWNERS GROVE into theatres and on Digital HD on August 21st, with VOD and DVD/Blu-ray releases set for just a week and a half later, on September 1st.

Written by Martini and AMERICAN PSYCHO author Bret Easton Ellis and based on a novel by Michael Hornburg, the film tells the following story:

The town of Downers Grove looks like your average suburban neighborhood — but Downers Grove has a disturbing secret… For the past eight years, one senior from every high school graduating class has met a bizarre death right before graduation day. And this year, Chrissie Swanson  has a terrible feeling that she is going to be the one to die. Can Chrissie survive the curse of Downers Grove or will she, like those seniors before her, fall prey to the town’s deadly secret?

That synopsis doesn’t stir up much interest or confidence in DOWNERS GROVE for me, but its literary roots and the participation of Ellis give me some hope that there’s more going on than meets the eye. With the release a little over a month away, we should be seeing a trailer any time now, which will give us a better idea of what we’re dealing with here.

THE CURSE OF DOWNERS GROVE stars Bella Heathcote (above), Lucas Till, Penelope Mitchell (below), Tom Arnold, and Kevin Zegers.
