As many TV shows return after the holidays, so will begin the advertising for the mid-season premieres. What used to be filler series for shows cancelled from the Fall, midseason series have evolved into shorter run shows with higher concepts. Last season we had shows like THE FOLLOWING and HANNIBAL premiere and turn into some of the more entertaining series of the year. This year, one of those is the new show RESURRECTION.

A series about the dead returning to life, RESURRECTION has more in common with the French series THE RETURNED rather than THE WALKING DEAD. In fact, RESURRECTION is based on the novel “The Returned” by Jason Mott. The novel won’t be published until the end of March, but the ABC series will premiere at the beginning of the month.

Starring Omar Epps, Kurtwood Smith, Matt Craven, and Frances Fisher, RESURRECTION is a drama with a mystery wrapped around it that should make for compelling television.

The series follows the residents of Arcadia, Missouri, whose lives are upended when their loved ones return from the dead, unaged since their supposed deaths. Among the returned is Jacob Garland, an eight-year-old boy drowned thirty years earlier. Having somehow been found alive in China, he is brought back to America by an immigration agent. His surprise return inspires the local sheriff, whose wife drowned trying to rescue Jacob, to learn more about this mystery.

A longer trailer was shown when the series was first announced earlier in the year, but now we have this perfect teaser that gives you just enough of a hint about the non-zombie series to get you excited for the premiere on March 9, 2014.
