Who’s down for something mysterious this Thursday afternoon? A new teaser trailer for David Robert Mitchell’s latest film, The End of Oak Street, is stomping around online, and I must admit that I am intrigued. Formally known as Flowervale Street, Warner Bros. announced the film’s August 14 release date alongside a teaser that makes the new film from the director of 2014’s It Follows look like a must-watch.
The words “What the hell is going on?” come to mind when watching this new teaser. The promo begins with Anne Hathaway’s character organizing a family meeting to talk about a serious matter. Seemingly overnight, their neighborhood has “moved.” When driving along their familiar street, everything looks normal until you reach the end. When you get to the edge, it looks as if Oak Street has traveled through time, and dinosaurs are on the loose! Dinosaurs, people! Let’s freakin’ go!
The End of Oak Street stars Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada 2, Mother Mary) and Ewan McGregor (Big Fish, Trainspotting, Doctor Sleep), with Maisy Stella (My Old Ass, Nashville, Life is Strange), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth, The Monkey, Cocaine Bear), Jordan Alexis Davis (Defending Jacob, Just Between Us), P.J. Byrne (The Wolf of Wall Street, I Play Rocky, Babylon), and Chris Coy (Black Rabbit, Lanterns, The Peripheral) leading the ensemble cast.
It Follows and Under the Silver Lake filmmaker David Robert Mitchell directs The End of Oak Street from his own script. Mitchell also serves as a producer on the project with J.J. Abrams, Tommy Harper, Matt Jackson, and Hannah Minghella. Chris Bender executive produces.
After watching the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and being bored to tears, this is the shot in the arm I needed. I’m digging the Amblin Entertainment vibes, with the teaser giving ’80s-style Steven Spielberg and Super 8 energy. Plus, when’s the last time we had a good dinosaur movie that wasn’t part of the Jurassic Park franchise? I like the idea of an entire neighborhood being transported to a dangerous, possibly prehistoric time and forced to navigate an attack by larger-than-life creatures in a confined space. Sign me up for this one!
