The first trailer for The Eyes of Tammy Faye has been released and it features a nearly unrecognizable Jessica Chastain channeling the late televangelist.
The film, directed by Michael Showalter, is based on the documentary of the same name by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato that chronicled the life of Tammy Faye and her husband Jim Bakker. Jessica Chastain also produces the film and the cast includes Andrew Garfield, Cherry Jones, and Vincent D'Onofrio.
Tammy Faye Messner, formerly Bakker, gained significant publicity when her husband Jim Bakker was indicted, convicted, and imprisoned on numerous counts of fraud and conspiracy in 1989, resulting in the dissolution of The PTL Club, a televangelist program she co-founded with Bakker in 1974. Tammy Faye was known for her eccentric and glamourous persona and it looks like Chastain is completely channeling that in the film's trailer.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye was originally scheduled to be released on September 24, 2021, but it was bumped up a week to September 17, 2021.
