The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone to tackle Stephen King’s Revival

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

Josh Boone might be best known as the director of the teen weepy adaptation THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, but the man has a secret obsession: Stephen King. Boone has been working on the screenplay for an adaptation of THE STAND which he intends to direct, but he "need[s] more time" and in the meantime has turned to another King property: his 2014 novel REVIVAL.

He hopes to direct the film this year, off a script he penned under the supervision of producer Michael De Luca and Stephen King himself.

REVIVAL is about:

a charismatic preacher who loses his faith when his wife and child are killed in a tragic accident. Unhinged from the religion that grounded and gave him a conscience, the preacher becomes ruthless in his experimentation into the healing but dangerous power of electrical current, positioning him to act as God-like faith healer and opening a terrifying Pandora’s Box.

Intertwined with the preacher is a young man with demons of his own, who has benefited from the preacher’s talents and becomes a reluctant accomplice to his deadly obsession.

Says Boone, "When I read Revival, I was like, man, did you write this for me? …Even now as a non-believer, I’m still fascinated by that world and Revival is the scariest thing he’s written since Pet Sematary."

Josh Boone has also been attached to the Stephen King adaptation LISEY'S STORY and is set to write/direct X-MEN: THE NEW MUTANTS and the Anne Rice adaptation VAMPIRE CHRONICLES. The man's got a lot on his plate.
