Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It's time for another genre classic to get the Deconstructing… treatment, as the latest episode in the video series have arrived online with a look at David Cronenberg's incredible 1986 remake of The Fly (watch the movie HERE, buy the Fly collection HERE).

Directed by Cronenberg from a screenplay he wrote with Charles Edward Pogue (based on George Langelaan's short story and its 1958 cinematic adaptation), The Fly stars Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, and John Getz. The story:

When scientist Seth Brundle (Goldblum) completes his teleportation device, he decides to test its abilities on himself. Unbeknownst to him, a housefly slips in during the process, leading to a merger of man and insect. Initially, Brundle appears to have undergone a successful teleportation, but the fly's cells begin to take over his body. As he becomes increasingly fly-like, Brundle's girlfriend (Davis) is horrified as the person she once loved deteriorates into a monster.

Deconstructing… is a monthly web series in which

we choose one of your favorite horror movies and take it apart piece by piece (lovingly, of course) to see what makes it a classic. Each episode examines the origins, legacy and mysteries behind our beloved genre's most iconic titles… but we play fast and loose with the rules, so expect the unexpected!

The show is Written, Edited, and Narrated by Gregory Burkart, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
