The full trailer for The Gallows has some evil school spirit

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Last month, I was impressed by the teaser for THE GALLOWS. Despite being a Blumhouse production, I was optimistic that the found footage horror movie could be a surprise hit of the summer. Now, the new international trailer for the movie has been revealed. While it looks a little more formulaic than the teaser, I still am intrigued by it.

20 years after a horrific accident during a small town school play, students at the school resurrect the failed show in a misguided attempt to honor the anniversary of the tragedy – but soon discover that some things are better left alone.

What usually makes this found footage movies work is the well executed scares. I can allow my suspension of disbelief to accept that these people would continue filming even under the insane circumstances, but if the scares themselves are not done well then I give up on it. Found footage may be reaching the end of it’s popularity, but as long as people like getting scared, we will continue to see them.

THE GALLOWS opens on July 10th.
