The Hugh Jackman discusses the rating of The Wolverine

Comic fans have been waiting for their favorite adamantium-clawed mutant to really unleash his fury on the screen, and no one agrees more than Logan’s on-screen incarnation, Hugh Jackman.

As he tells MTV: “There’s such great temptation to make an R-rated WOLVERINE. I’ve always felt that, I know a lot of fans would like that. I totally get it. If there was ever a superhero that was going to be R-rated, it’s Wolverine. However, in the last ten years, I’ve also met many, many 12, 13, dare I say 10, 14, 15 year-olds who, for them, Wolverine is not just cool, you see it in their eyes. He’s everything to them. So my thing, [director] James Mangold and I talked about, is let’s not put it off the table. There’s even a talk of us doing two versions, as in finding a way for us to do both as you shoot it, which could be really cool. But you need to have a really good reason to exclude those fans.”

Still, Jackman can’t deny the character’s inherently violent nature, and says they’ll be “inventive, and try to find a way around” the specific things that draw an R-rating.

Jackman also says we won’t see any familiar faces from the various X-MEN movies in THE WOLVERINE, but then implies that it’s possible since he won’t reveal the story’s timeline and states that not all of the movie takes place in Japan (where Logan meets his true love and faces a ninja clan, Silver Samurai and Viper), as previously expected.

Meanwhile, the actor took a few moments out of his busy schedule to sit down with his doppelganger on SNL this weekend:
