The Mandalorian: Luke Skywalker’s return to be featured in Disney+ special

It can be extraordinarily difficult to keep a secret in Hollywood, but every now and then, a gigantic one is able to slide under the radar and surprise audiences. One such surprise occured in the season two finale of The Mandalorian when Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) arrived just in time to save Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), Cara Dune (Gina Carano) from Moff Gideon's (Giancarlo Esposito) Dark Troopers and take Baby Yoda (himself) away for Jedi training.

We've heard very little of what it took to bring Luke Skywalker back to the franchise, but that's all set to change with a very special episode of Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Disney announced today that they will be releasing Making of the Season 2 Finale on August 25th. The special will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at Luke Skywalker's return, with a "focus on the technology used for recreating Luke Skywalker. It delves into the collaborative process, including working with Mark Hamill, to create an authentic and fitting recreation, and explores the immense pressure and responsibility the filmmakers had in bringing back one of the most important characters in film history." It should be quite the treat. This announcement comes on the heels of The Mandalorian receiving 24 Emmy award nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.

Unfortunately, we do have a bit of a wait ahead of us before the third season of The Mandalorian, but that doesn't mean that Disney+ will be lacking in Star Wars content. The Book of Boba Fett will be coming to the streaming service this December, and Temuera Morrison has teased that in the series will reveal what the infamous bounty hunter has been up to since the Original Trilogy. As for The Mandalorian's third season, executive producer Dave Filoni has hinted that we'll be seeing more of the Jedi. "There's a lot of new adventures coming up," Filoni said. "I have to be careful, I can't really say anything specific, but I think the Force will be strong with this, let's just say that."
