Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Amazon Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has cast director, actor, and author John Waters in a guest-starring role, for the fourth season of the hit show. The pencil-thin mustachioed man is a legend in his own right, having written and directed films like Cry-Baby, Hairspray, Cecil B. Demented, Pink Flamingos, Serial Mom, Pecker, and more.

The nature of the character he is playing is unknown at this time though this isn't the icon's first acting rodeo. In the past, Waters has appeared in films like Seed of Chucky, Excision, and even Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. When it comes to television appearances, he's guested on such shows as Law & Order: SVU, The Blacklist, and Feud: Bette and Joan.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, who executive produces along with Daniel Palladino. The series begins in the late 1950s and Miriam "Midge" Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) has everything she has ever wanted — the perfect husband, two kids, and an elegant apartment on New York's Upper West Side. Her seemingly idyllic life takes a surprising turn when she discovers a hidden talent she didn't previously know she had — stand-up comedy. This revelation changes her life forever as she begins a journey that takes her from her comfortable life on the Upper West Side through the cafes and nightclubs of Greenwich Village as she makes her way through the city's comedy industry on a path that could ultimately lead her to a spot on the "Tonight Show" couch. The show also starring Alex Borstein, Tony Shalhoub, Marin Hinkle, Michael Zegen, Kevin Pollak, Caroline Aaron, and Jane Lynch.

The show is also an award-winning powerhouse, with 20 Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes to its name. And now, with Waters walking onto the set, there's no telling how he'll class up the joint even more. Be sure to check out John Waters when Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel hits Amazon Prime.
