The Neighborhood, Bob Hearts Abihola, renewed, CBS

CBS has handed out a couple of renewals to a pair of their comedies that have performed very solidly on Monday nights. Bob Hearts Abishola has earned a season three renewal while The Neighborhood will be back for season four.

Both comedies have performed well on Monday nights for the network & they are both multicamera comedies that have been filmed during the pandemic without their traditional live studio audiences. No easy task for comedies like this but they have certainly made it work for CBS. The Neighborhood, starring Cedric The Entertainer & Max Greenfield, ranks as TV's second most-watched comedy with more than 7 million viewers while Bob Hearts Abishola, which marks a reunion for Chuck Lorre with Mike & Molly alum Billy Gardell, has collected 6.7 million viewers after moving from its original spot on Thursdays last season. Thom Sherman, senior exec VP programming at CBS, had this to say about the renewals:

"We’re extremely proud of these two comedies and delighted to bring them back next season. The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola masterfully blend humor with relatable and culturally relevant storylines and are tremendous, successful Monday night anchors."

The Neighborhood follows a white Midwestern family as they adjust to moving into a predominantly African-American neighborhood in Pasadena, California. In addition to Cedric and Greenfield, the series also stars Tichina Arnold and Beth Behrs. On Bob Hearts Abishola, Bob Wheeler (Gardell) runs his family's successful, highly competitive sock company in Detroit with his mother Dottie (Christine Ebersole) and his younger two siblings. The stress of the job eventually lands Bob in Woodward Memorial Hospital due to a mild heart attack but Bob surprisingly finds himself drawn to his kind, hardworking nurse, Abishola Adebambo (Folake Olowofoyeku). The series also stars Matt Jones, Maribeth Monroe, Vernee Watson, Shola Adewusi, Barry Shabaka Henley, Travis Wolfe, Jr., Gina Yashere, Bayo Akinfemi, and Anthony Okungbowa.

Both comedies mark the first renewals for CBS this season which came a bit early due to the not traditional season in the wake of the pandemic. I can't speak for Bob Hearts Abishola but I have checked out episodes of The Neighborhood and it is good for a quick laugh. Cedric The Entertainer, Max Greenfield, Tichina Arnold, and Beth Behrs are pretty great together and the writing is generally solid.

Are YOU happy about the renewals for The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola?
