This year is the 30th anniversary of the cinematic adaptation of Stephen King's deeply troubling story PET SEMATARY, and distributor Paramount is marking the occasion by releasing a new adaptation. With the 2019 PET SEMATARY set to reach theatres in less than two months, a second trailer for the film (we saw the first trailer back in October) has arrived online and can be seen below.
This PET SEMATARY was directed by the STARRY EYES duo of Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer, working from a screenplay by THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN's Jeff Buhler.
Starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, Hugo Lavoie, Lucas Lavoie, Jeté Laurence, Obssa Ahmed, Alyssa Brooke Levine, and John Lithgow, the film follows
Dr. Louis Creed (Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.
The new trailer not only gives a good idea of just how dark and creepy Kolsch and Widmyer have attempted to make their version of this story, but also shows that the fates of certain characters have been changed. This is different from the PET SEMATARY we're familiar with.
We'll find out just how different when the new film is released on April 5th.
