Omicron be damned! ABC is moving ahead with the Oscar ceremony this year and the network has announced that the show will return with a host for the first time in three years.
Craig Erwich, president, Hulu Originals & ABC Entertainment, made the announcement during his TCA executive session. Erwich didn’t provide any other details in terms of who will be hosting or who is on the wish list but he did joke that it could be him.
Per “Deadline“, executive producer Will Packer and the Academy have started to reach out to big Hollywood talent for the job, with names like Dwayne Johson making the wish list. Jimmy Kimmel was the last person to host the Oscars in 2017 and 2018. Kevin Hart was chosen to host the 2019 ceremony but dropped out after old tweets resurfaced, forcing the show to go hostless. ABC also opted to not have a host for the 2020 or 2021 ceremony as well.
The 94th Annual Academy Awards is set for March 27, 2022, and will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Nominations for the ceremony will be revealed on February 8, 2022.
