The Primetime Emmy Awards are going host-less this year on Fox

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It's been announced by the Television Academy that the 2019 Emmy Awards will go without a host. Set to be aired on Fox, the small screen celebration will take place on the evening of September 22, marking the fourth time that the ceremony has been a host-less affair. The last time that the Emmys went without primary presenters was in 2003.

Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier confirmed the Academy's plans to go commando during the network's TCA conference. The move to go host-less comes not long after this year's Academy Awards opted to not replace Kevin Hart as the Master of Ceremonies. In the time leading up to the event, the JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL actor experienced backlash from tweets he'd posted online. After refusing to apologize for his remarks, Hart was removed as host. The result of going host-less proved to be a boon for the Academy, as many viewers had expressed that the show felt tighter and better presented than in previous years. The show, which had been losing viewers for some time, even experienced a bit of an up-tick in those who tuned in for the star-studded event.

“It may be much better to put this show together without a host since it has worked before and it allows us to be a little more unpredictable,” said Mischer, whose Don Mischer Productions produces this year’s ceremony with Done+Dusted. (via Deadline)

It's to be thought that the reason the Emmy's are going host-less is to allow for more time to celebrate some of this year's best television series, and the people who've worked tirelessly to bring those lofty projects to the masses. For example, shows like HBO's GAME OF THRONES and VEEP, and CBS' THE BIG BANG THEORY all came to an end in 2019. As this is their last chance to be showcased, you can bet that the show will pay special attention to the aforementioned programs.
