The Spine of Night: RLJE Films and Shudder acquire SXSW hit

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It's just been announced that RLJE Films and Shudder have acquired the rights to distribute the well-received, hard-R throwback animated fantasy-horror adventure, The Spine of Night, which premiered recently at SXSW! Inspired by the classic works of artists like Ralph Bakshi and Frank Franzetta, and the fantasy genre as it was in the 1970s – boundary pushing, politically progressive, and utterly fearless – the film stars Richard E. Grant, Lucy Lawless, Patton Oswalt, Betty Gabriel and Joe Manganiello!

Here's the official synopsis:

An ultra-violent fantasy epic, ancient dark magic falls into sinister hands and unleashes ages of suffering onto mankind. A group of heroes from different eras and cultures must band together in order to defeat it at all costs.

No official release date as of yet, but we'll keep you posted!

So what do you guys think? Fans of the old-school rotoscoped aesthetic? Either way, sound off below!
