The Strangers 2 isn’t happening anytime soon

In this fertile period of classic horror franchises being resurrected, it's easy to forget that there are some titles that are still being raked over hot coals in Development Hell. The latest to rejoin the damned is THE STRANGERS 2, which was previously announced to be tentatively in production, but will obviously be missing its projected December 2016 date.

Rue Morgue just ran an interview with Adrienne Biddle, director Bryan Bertino's frequent producer. The interview was mostly about their newest project THE MONSTER, but he had some choice words on the fate of THE STRANGERS 2:

Bryan and I and our company are not attached to the project at this point. He wrote the original script, which I will say is a fantastic piece of writing, but he was never going to direct it, and it’s in Relativity Media’s hands following the sale of Rogue to Relativity. That's not how you talk about a project in development. I'd say that THE STRANGERS 2 is dead as a doornail until further notice, unfortunately. Maybe they can pull a J. K. Rowling and just release the script as a book or something.

Here's the plot of the script, if it ever makes it to screen:

After financial troubles force them to move out of their house, a family of four try to make it through the night in a deserted trailer park while being hunted by the savage, ax-wielding, mask-wearing trio wrecking havoc once again.
