The first trailer for I, FRANKENSTEIN starring Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski, Jai Courtney, Miranda Otto, and Kevin Grevioux has smashed its way online. Directed by Stuart Beattie in his first major studio release as director (he wrote COLLATERAL, AUSTRALIA, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, etc.), the film is an adaptation of the comic book from Darkstorm studios, which features Frankenstein’s monster as a sort of modern day supernatural superhero.

Take a look:

Here’s the synopsis:

Frankenstein’s creature finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.

It looks like a hybrid between VAN HELSING and MAX PAYNE, two films that had style and starpower, but neither of which delivered beyond that. I’m a big fan of Eckhart’s and feel that he’s perfectly suited for this type of material, although I’d like to see him tackle something in the mainstream realm of comics (coughDareDevilcough). I won’t knock it outright, but the odds are this will be a pretty cheesy CGI monster mash (pun most definitely intended), but if it proves to be more, I’m totally game.

I, FRANKENSTEIN hits theaters on January 24, 2014.
