Are you upset that Animal Crossing: New Horizons feels like it hasn’t had an update in eons? Have you exhausted every option in Pokémon: Pokopia? Maybe it’s time to roll a spliff, order some Mooby’s on Uber Eats, and start your own weed farm with two of your best buds! Early into this year’s New York City Comic-Con shenanigans, Nitrate Games introduced the gaming community to Jay and Silent Bob’s Joint Venture. This mature-rated cozy farm sim tasks you with managing a lucrative weed farm alongside two of Hollywood’s most beloved stoners.
Snoogans! Animal Crossing Meets the View Askewniverse
Jay and Silent Bob’s Joint Venture is a raunchy new take on a cozy farming genre – if those crops were akin to Jay and Silent Bob’s specific cultural tastes. The game is a digital love letter to filmmaker Kevin Smith’s beloved cult-classic characters. Players will build, cultivate, and expand their operation, interact with familiar faces, and experience an original story featuring Kevin Smith‘s iconic characters.
A Star-Studded Cast of Cult Classics
Among the reveals of the game during the panel were most of the characters from within Kevin Smith’s films, including fan favorites across the films: Dante, Randal, and Veronica (Clerks); Brodie and T.S. (Mallrats); Holden, Banky, Hooper, and Alyssa (Chasing Amy); Azrael and Serendipity (Dogma); Becky and Elias (Clerks II); and, of course, Mooby.. Celebrated live-action and animation scribe Ernie Altbacker (Batman: Hush, Justice League Dark) is the game’s writer. Both Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes have been involved from the start, shepherding the creative vision.
A True Cinematic Sequel in Game Form
“Joint Venture is a Jay and Silent Bob game, but it’s actually a continuation of Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse,” says Nitrate Games co-founder Montana Sommese. “The central narrative picks up where the films left off, making the game a kind of sequel. Players can befriend and engage with their favorite characters from Kevin Smith’s movies like never before. As we update the game over time, we’re excited to be able to expand Kevin’s story universe with narrative updates that will continue building from his cinematic universe.”
Expanding the Stoner Cinema Universe
Earlier this year, Interbang Entertainment released Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch, a side-scrolling beat-em-up featuring iconic characters and locations from Smith’s Askewniverse. It’s a blast for any fan of the genre or Smith’s roster of comedies. For our full review of the game, click here.
As much as cozy farm sims only appeal to me for so long, I’m genuinely eager to check out Jay and Silent Bob’s Joint Venture. If I can play a Cheech & Chong weed farm sim on my phone for several hours, I can certainly give this a shot.
