The trailer for Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain is full of roid rage

I was not quite sure what to make of PAIN AND GAIN based on the posters or the behind the scenes images we have seen to date. Was it going to be a comedy or a drama or what? Based on this international trailer, it is a combination of both with some action thrown in for good measure.

This looks like the smallest film from Michael Bay in quite a long time, which is the understatement of the century. Any other director would have had this film be one of their biggest budget projects, but after what Bay has worked on with TRANSFORMERS, this is the equivalent of an indie film.

Plot: From acclaimed director Michael Bay comes PAIN AND GAIN, a new action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong.

Anthony Mackie, Tony Shalhoub, and Ed Harris are welcome additions to the two main stars and actually make this look like it would be worthwhile to see. The comedy aspect of the film is my only question mark, but this could end up being BAD BOYS from the criminal perspective: loud, crude, violent, and still funny throughout.

PAIN AND GAIN opens April 26, 2013.
