The trailer for The Duke of Burgundy is very kinky and very weird

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

There was a pretty good reaction to thetrailer for THE LOFT with many saying we just don’t see that kind of sexual thriller any more. In fact, it was the exact tone and style that many found missing from the teaser for FIFTY SHADES OF GREY. Well, get ready for the trailer for THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY.

From director Peter Strickland, THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY follows the sexual exploits of a young woman and the older lady who employs her. It is tough to tell just what the movie is about outside of their sexual tension, but it looks like it has to do with butterflies and a lot of leather. Strickland is best known for the Toby Jones thriller BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO which is a phenomenally underseen film and makes this an automatic must see for me.

Based on the reaction at film festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival, THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY is one to watch. I don’t know much about the cast that includes Sidse Babett Knudsen, Monica Swinn, and Chiara D’Anna, but I know an intriguing trailer when I see one. THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY opens in the UK on February 20, 2015. There is no domestic release date yet but IFC Films will likely debut it sometime next year.
