Every year a few visual effect reels get released and it still amazes me the amount of digital work that goes into our favorite blockbusters. The post-production work looks like it's enough to make you want to take up drinking. Today we have the VFX reel for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER; it’s pretty clear with a movie like there is going to be endless visual effect shots. This three-minute featurette represents a small sampling of the nearly 900 visual effects shots Industrial Light & Magic contributed to the film created by an international crew of over 300 people.
Crazy right? The amount of animation that’s done from scratch and the logistics/physics that goes into every second of screen time is fascinating. While I’m watching these movies a part of me thinks that what I’m watching isn’t practical and was done using a mouse; but I must say, that part of me isn’t as loud as it used to be. Are the effects getting better or am I just going with the flow and enjoying myself? I’m not sure really, maybe both. I can’t imagine it’s easy for any actor to work on a bare set and pretend to be surrounded by chaos; kudo to Chris Evans and the gang, this doesn't look easy.
