The Wachowskis & Tom Tykwer to co-direct Cloud Atlas, Natalie Portman to star?

Y’all familiar with David Mitchell’s 6-part sci-fi tome CLOUD ATLAS? You think the Wachowskis are capable of doing the book big screen justice? How about Tom Tykwer? Hell, how about all three of them together?!?

According to a comment made by newly knocked up and engaged Natalie Portman (below), such is certainly a possibility. In fact, to hear here put it, she’s quite definitive. Peep it:

“I don’t know what’s going on with financing. I read it while doing V For Vendetta, and I gave it to (Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski) and to Tom Tykwer. Now they’re directing it together, the three of them. I will have some acting role in it if it happens, but probably nothing major.”

Wow, not only would we get a fascinating collaboration between two daring, at times off-kilter filmmakers, the source material itself is dope as hell. This could end up being a hell of a film.

Of course, Tom Tykwer was originally attached to direct the film, with the Wachowski’s simply producing. Now that the trio are prepared to visualize the project together, what do you think? Potential for greatness or do you not really care either way?
