The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf trailer brings swashbuckling action

Netflix has quite the hit on their hands with The Witcher, with the first season of the fantasy series proving to be wildly successful. It didn't take long for the streaming service to start expanding the franchise; in addition to renewing the series for a second season, Netflix is also developing a prequel series revolving around the creation of the first Witcher, but the next Witcher project will be The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an anime feature-film which tells the origin of Geralt's mentor, Vesemir.

The streaming service has released a new trailer for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf which is full of swashbuckling action and, of course, plenty of monsters. "Before Geralt, there was his mentor Vesemir — a swashbuckling young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin," the official synopsis reads. "But when a strange new monster begins terrorizing a politically fraught kingdom, Vesemir finds himself on a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past." The film features Theo James as Vesemir, Lara Pulver as Tetra, Graham McTavish as Deglan, and Mary McDonnell as Lady Zerbst. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will debut on Netflix on August 23, 2021.

The second season of The Witcher will premiere on December 17, 2021. As for The Witcher: Blood Origin, the live-action prequel series will be set in an elven world 1200 years before the main series and tell a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal "conjunction of the spheres," when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
