The X-Files season 11 adds Annabeth Gish and female directors

Monica Reyes was a major character in the eighth and ninth seasons of The X-Files, but when the show returned to Fox last year after a 14 year hiatus Reyes only appeared in one episode – the season finale. If you were hoping to see more of her, you're in luck: with an Instagram post, Gish has confirmed that she will be returning for season 11.

Gish will be joining fellow returning actors David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and Mitch Pileggi.

In one of the longest-running science fiction series in network TV history, FBI special agents investigate unexplained, mind-bending cases known as "X-Files." Though the government is convinced that the outlandish reports are false, conspiracy theorist Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and realist Dana Scully (Anderson), for most of the series, stop at nothing to prove that "the truth is out there."

The eleventh season of The X-Files will consist of 10 episodes, which series creator Chris Carter is writing with James Wong, Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan, Brad Follmer, Gabe Rotter, and Benjamin Van Allen.

The fact that the writers room is populated entirely by men caused a bit of a stir when the writers were announced earlier this year, with Anderson pointing out that only 2 of The X-Files' 207 episodes had been directed by women. Thanks to season 11, that count will be increasing to at least 4 – TVLine has learned that Carol Banker, a script supervisor on The X-Files who directed an episode of the short-lived spin-off The Lone Gunmen, and Holly Dale, whose credits include Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Grimm, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., will be directing episodes of the new season.
