This poster for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit tells us to trust no one

JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT may look like it’s going to be an awesome ride but this poster is a little less than stellar.

Maybe one of my New Year’s resolutions should be a more positive frame of mind when dissecting the quality of a poster. I think of the reasons I do this aside from seeing the same boring, vanilla crap over and over again is that ever since I was younger I had movie posters all over my walls. I constantly went to our small town video store to place dibs on the good prints they would receive. Also, my middle school drama teacher would hand his over after keeping them on the classroom walls for so long. Sadly, the majority of them were lost, damaged, or given to other people. I would have an impressive collection if it wasn’t for those factors.

That said, I wouldn’t mind having a poster that included Chris Pine, Kevin Costner, Keira Knightley, and Kenneth Branagh on my wall. This one is my favorite of the bunch so far. My only real gripe is this poster is exactly like the one that was released at the beginning of the month. The only difference is the background and tiny supporting/main character.

Poster released early this month:

JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT hits theaters on January 17, 2014.
