Looks like Tim Burton’s going back to his stable of workhorses…

Deadline is reporting that Burton, who has officially committed to adapt his 1984 stop-motion short FRANKENWEENIE into a feature, has recruited past-collaborators Winona Ryder (below), Martin Landau (right), Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara to voice a roles in his next feature. Looks like there is loyalty in Hollywood!

Of course, Winona worked with Burton on BEETLEJUICE and EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. Marty Landau culled an Oscar for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi in Burton’s ED WOOD, with Short & O’Hara (who are said to voice 5 roles each in this project) making extended cameos in the oft-panned MARS ATTACKS. All very fine actors, in voice roles or not.

FRANKENWEENIE’S 1984 synopsis:

When young Victor’s pet dog Sparky (who stars in Victor’s home-made monster movies) is hit by a car, Victor decides to bring him back to life the only way he knows how. But when the bolt-necked “monster” wreaks havoc and terror in the hearts of Victor’s neighbors, he has to convince them (and his parents) that despite his appearance, Sparky’s still the good loyal friend he’s always been.

So what’s the deal? You diggin’ the preliminary casting for Burton’s latest? If not, why not?
