Earlier this month came the troubling news that the Chris Gorak-directed, Timur Bekmambetov-produced alien invasion thriller THE DARKEST HOUR had been shut down due to the raging fires that have plagued Russia without an end in sight. It’s nice, then, to report that the film is set to continue production on the 29th.
Hopefully, this is thanks to the fires being lessened, or somewhat contained (although a quick check of the news makes it appear as though that isn’t the case). It’s unknown if THE DARKEST HOUR will go on filming in Moscow, or if they’re moving to another location or indoors – all the Deadline.com article that brings the information says is that production is starting back up. However, Summit announced that it always has contingency plans built into it’s schedules (as do all studios), so shooting shouldn’t be affected in a major way.
The flick, concerning an alien invasion in Moscow, stars Olivia Thirlby, Emile Hirsch, Max Minghella and Rachel Taylor. It has an AUGUST 5th, 2011 release date scheduled, giving them more than enough time to complete the film. It’s being shot in 3D.
