Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko take to the sky in this BubbleShip featurette for Oblivion

Tom Cruise has always been a very hands-on actor, getting involved with every aspect of the films he stars in, be it taking on a producer role or doing his own stunts. None of that has changed for OBLIVION, the upcoming sci-fi thriller from director Joseph Kosinski (TRON: LEGACY) and this new featurette shows the prolific actor’s first meeting with the BubbleShip, which his character flies throughout the film.  It’s always cool to see Cruise on set, because he seems to bring a lot of energy to it and his genuine enthusiasm is admirable.

In the featurette, Cruise plays with the controls and gets a feel for his new craft, before they toss his co-star, Olga Kurylenko, into the ship with him with very different results.  Kurylenko is less than enthused by the mechanics, which will likely work out for the best in the final film.  Nothing like genuine fear, eh?

Take a look:

I’ll go ahead and beat the dead horse here and say that OBLIVION is one of my most anticipated films of the year.  Cruise and Kosinski are a great match to bring the passion and style to a sci-fi pic of this magnitute and I can’t wait to see it on the big screen (in IMAX, of course).

OBLIVION, starring Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko, Morgan Freeman, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo, Zoe Bell, and Andrea Riseboroug, hits theaters on April 19, 2013.
