Earlier this morn Jared shared with you the thoughts of James Cameron regarding his collaboration with Guillermo del Toro on AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS 3D. Thankfully, Cameron described the flick as an “epically scaled horror flick.” Question still loomed…who the hell would headline such a project?
Well our fiendish friends at Collider got their paws on a casting dilemma between Guillermo del Toro and Universal. The two sides seem to be at loggerheads when deciding who should star in del Toro’s long gestating MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. Universal apparently sees James McAvoy as the man for the job…del Toro’s dead-set on getting Tommy Cruise the gig!
Cruise and del Toro have history, what with the filmmaker pursuing the Lilliputian actor for a VAN HELSING update that ultimately fizzled about a month ago. Universal, who benefited from casting McAvoy in WANTED, obviously wants to duplicate the feat. But really, who would YOU rather see playing the lead in MOUNTAINS?
From H.P. Lovecraft: The story is written in first-person perspective by the geologist William Dyer, a professor from Miskatonic University. He writes to disclose hitherto unknown and closely kept secrets in the hope that he can deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition there, a party of scholars from Miskatonic University, led by Dyer, discovered fantastic and horrific ruins and a dangerous secret beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas.
