A new scribe has been tapped to write the SPLINTER CELL movie. According to Deadline, Frank John Hughes will pen the next draft of the script for the planned video game adaptation for New Regency and Ubisoft. Hughes only has two writing credits to his name (DARK TOURIST, LEAVE), but as an actor, he's probably best known for his roles in CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, MR. VINCENT, and HBO's Band of Brothers and The Sopranos. Eric Warren Singer and Sheldon Turner have both worked on previous drafts of the script.
While Tom Hardy is still set to play Sam Fisher, the project needs a director since Doug Liman reportedly left the film earlier this year, although it looks like he's still attached to it as a producer. Production on SPLINTER CELL probably won't begin this year as originally planned, so the earliest the movie will likely be released is late 2016.
