Top Gun: Maverick is the title for the upcoming sequel starring Tom Cruise

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

In an era of belated and unnecessary sequels, TOP GUN 2 might be the most belated and unnecessary. Are there really people clamouring to see what Maverick is up to these days? Especially with the Cold War over and the idea of unanimously glorifying the military a much more murky proposition (whether warranted or not)? Well, Hollywood and Tom Cruise seem to think so. And, hell, maybe I'm wrong and I'm shitting on everyone's favorite movie (and if so, I apologize). I've been wrong before.

Anyway, it seems we finally got a title for the new film, and it's – drumroll please – TOP GUN: MAVERICK. I wonder what the focus will be?

Anyway, here's what Cruise had to say about the upcoming project, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one…but a progression for Maverick.

He also mentioned that he nixed the idea of using a number in the title, since a number wasn't "needed". I guess he's got a point there.

Anyway, what do you Schmoes think? You guys down to re-enter the – as Archer would say – DAAANGER ZOOONE???!!! Either way, sound off below!

Meanwhile no official release dates soon, but expect to hear some shortly.
