Trailer arrives for suburban nightmare film Knives and Skin

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Writer/director Jennifer Reeder's KNIVES AND SKIN is set to have some theatrical screenings in Los Angeles and New York City over the next couple weeks, ahead of a digital and VOD release that's scheduled for December 6th.

With the screening dates swiftly approaching a trailer and poster for the film have arrived online. The trailer is embedded above, and the poster can be seen below.

Starring Marika Engelhardt, Audrey Francis, Tim Hopper, and Kate Arrington, KNIVES AND SKIN has the following synopsis:

What happened to Carolyn Harper? Part suburban nightmare, part neon-soaked teenage fever dream, this tantalizing mystery traces the wave of fear and distrust that spreads across a small Midwestern town in the wake of a high school girl’s mysterious disappearance. As the loneliness and darkness lurking beneath the veneer of everyday life gradually comes to light, a collective awakening seems to overcome the town’s teenage girls—gathering in force until it can no longer be contained. Unfolding in a hallucinatory haze of lushly surreal images, Knives and Skin is a one-of-a-kind coming-of-age noir that haunts like a half-remembered dream.

Here's the list of LA screenings:

The trailer for KNIVES AND SKIN is packed with positive review quotes calling the film "staggeringly original", "intensely moving", "hypnotic", and "boldy surreal." One quote says the movie is like "Twin Peaks meets DONNIE DARKO", so we should probably be prepared for it to be quite weird. Oh, there's another quote that covers that: it's "refreshingly weird."

It does seem interesting, and I like the look of the cinematography.
