Trailer: Batman takes on Jack the Ripper in Gotham by Gaslight

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight

While the live action, big screen iteration of Batman gears up to assemble the JUSTICE LEAGUE this weekend, Warner Bros. has released a trailer for an upcoming animated Batman adventure – one which has a touch of horror to it (and a R rating), thanks to the criminal "the world's greatest detective" will be tracking down.

Titled BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT, this animated feature is set

in an alternative Victorian Age Gotham City, where Batman begins his war on crime while he investigates a new series of murders by Jack the Ripper.

GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT is based on a one-shot comic book by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola that was published in 1989 and is considered to be the first "Elseworlds" story. If you're not familiar with DC's "Elseworlds" comics, they're stories that take DC characters out of their usual settings and drops them into different timelines / realities.

And since they can deliver us concepts like Batman taking on Jack the Ripper, Elseworlds stories are a very good thing.

The voice cast of BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT includes Bruce Greenwood as Batman / Bruce Wayne, Jennifer Carpenter as Selina Kyle, Scott Patterson as James Gordon, and Anthony Stewart Head as Alfred Pennyworth. Yuri Lowenthal, John DiMaggio, William Salyers, and Tara Strong are also in there.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be releasing GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT on Digital on January 23, 2018. A Blu-ray and DVD release will follow on February 6
