So, yeeeaaah, this is a real movie, people.  By real, I mean a movie that is actually set to play in theaters.  If it were a syfy original movie it wouldn’t be surprising (which is what I thought it was at first), but it turns out BIG ASS SPIDER! is crawling its way into theaters next month, although I wouldn’t bet money on a wide release.  The pic stars Greg Grunberg, Lin Shaye, and Ray Wise who encounter, you guessed it, a BIG ASS SPIDER!, which happens to be an alien spider. Duh.

Just…just take a look:

I’m giving this some obvious shit, but hey, they got it into SXSW, a feat that wasn’t accomplished by veteran director Paul Schrader with his Lindsay Lohan starrer THE CANYONS.  Think about that for a minute.  The guy who wrote TAXI DRIVER and RAGING BULL couldn’t get his movie played, but a BIG ASS SPIDER! could.  So, yeah, the movie looks awful.  Can’t wait to see it, though.

Here’s the synopsis:

A giant alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampage the city of Los Angeles. When a massive military strike fails, it is up to a team of scientists and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed.

BIG ASS SPIDER! is threatening a release on March 8, 2013, but expect a quick turnaround on video.
