Transformers: Dark of the Moon coming to theaters early

Worried you might not be able to make it until July 1st to see TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON? Well, I’ve got good news for you: you won’t have to. Paramount has moved up the release date of the third TRANSFORMERS movie to June 29 (Wednesday to the original Friday) giving you a two day jump.

It’s a marketing strategy I’m not sure I understand but this is not the first time it’s happened. In fact, both previous TRANSFORMERS movies were scheduled on certain days and then bumped up slightly just before the release. Is it to indicate that the movie has so many people excited that they’re doing us a favor and releasing it early? More likely just giving themselves an extra jump on the box-office weekend but why not just announce a Wednesday release from the start?

DARK OF THE MOON will be releasing into 2D, 3D and 3D Imax theaters in what is likely to be a record amount of screens. In addition to release information, the MPAA just released the rating for DARK OF THE MOON and, like previous installments, it received a PG-13, this time for “intense prolonged sequences of sci-fi action violence, mayhem and destruction, and for language, some sexuality and innuendo.”
